High Power Laboratory

The High Power Laboratory (unique in Greece) performs Short Circuit Tests breaking capacity and Interrupting performance tests in High Voltage, Medium Voltage and Low Voltage Electrical Materials.

Main Tests

1. Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies, Low Voltage AC Micro Circuit-breakers, low voltage fuses, portable earthing equipment, Low Voltage relays.
2. Short time withstand current and peak withstand current tests:
3. High Voltage AC metal-enclosed switchgear and controlgear, Disconnectors and earthing switch, Load switches, Circuit-Breakers, fuse Cut-out 24kV, Current Transformers, Voltage Transformers, Portable earthing equipment, Surge Arresters, Medium Voltage Cables: Joints, End fittings, terminations, connectors etc.
4. AC metal-enclosed switchgear and controlgear: Internal arc test 10ka-1s.
5. Dynamic Ability to withstand short circuit tests for Power transformers 50-1600 KVA, Routine tests,
6. Visual /dimensional inspection, Sound levels measurements.

Main Equipment

1. Surge-Power Generator 400 MVA – 24 kV – 9,6 kArms, specially designed for short circuits tests.
2. Short circuit Test Transformer (Output Current up to 150kArms).
3. Data Acquisition system with 1Ms/s sampling capability.
4. Various types of electrical measuring instruments and testing layouts.
