Laboratory of Environmental Chemistry and Special Materials

The laboratory conducts physicochemical analyses of water, wastewater and eluates of ashes, sludges and soils. Furthermore, tests on materials of electrical and industrial equipment are conducted (corrosion and aging tests, tests on coatings e.t.c.)

Main Tests

1. Wastewater and water of production units (determination of physicochemical parameters: pH, conductivity, color, total dissolved solids (TDS), suspended solids (SS), alkalinity, anions, total hydrocarbons, parameters concerning undesirable substances, COD, TN, TOC, NH4+, etc.)
2. Eluates of ashes, sludge and soils (determination of physicochemical parameters: pH, conductivity, total dissolved solids (TDS), anions, TN, TOC)
3. Accelerated weather aging tests (with xenon lamp) in plastic and synthetic materials
4. Corrosion tests (salt spray test, test SO2) in metallic materials
5. Tests on plastic materials (identification of plastics/elastomers-, flammability tests, Vicat Temperature determination)
6. Tests on coatings (thickness, uniformity)
7. Tests on other industrial materials as cleaning clothes, wad, gloves, paper, liquid detergents etc.

Main Equipment

1. Ion chromatography systems (HPLC with eluent generation and UV-VIS detector, Capillary Ion Chromatography)
2. Total Organic Carbon (TOC) and total nitrogen (TN) analyzers
3. Solid samples Module (SSM) with Total Organic Carbon (TOC), total carbon (TC) and total inorganic carbon (TIC) analyzers.
4. Oil-in-water analyzer.
5. Salt spray / SO2 test chamber.
6. Accelerated weather aging test chamber
7. Instruments for Coating Thickness Measurement (Couloscopes).
8. Spectrophotometer for the determination of COD, NH4+, CN-, phenols etc.
9. Spectrophotometer ATR- FTIR (for identification of plastic / rubber materials)
10. Instruments for tests on plastic materials (chamber for flammability tests, instrument for the determination of Vicat temperature)
