REDESOx

The aim of the REDESOx proposal is to study, design and install a new innovative and integrated system of combined-hybrid dry desulfurization in a lignite fired power plant. The new method is based on the collection of solid lignite combustion by-products, including non-reactive dry desulfurization raw materials, their activation using innovative methods, and their refueling to the boiler in order to reduce SOx emissions. In particular, combustion by-products include, in addition to flying ash, sorbent material and gypsum from dry desulphurisation. With the help of new innovative air separation technology, the fine-grained active contents of the sorbent material that did not react as well as part of the aluminosilicate compounds of the fly ash and gypsum, once recovered, will be activated by grinding and controlled hydration in order to be re-used. The proposed REDESOx technology is a classic application of the" circular economy model " with application to the freezing of air pollutants and in particular to the reduction of SOx emissions.

The object of REDESOx's proposal is a) the exploitation of the successful research results conducted by PPC in Agios Dimitrios S. A. on the use of dry desulfurization in the line III boiler to reduce SOx emissions B) the optimization of the process under the "circular economy model" where the recycling and reuse of dry desulfurization raw materials increases their useful life and minimizes the use of Natural Resources, and C) the, in a rational and economical way, and in other lignite units of PPC A.E.

The proposal is based on the combination of the innovative hybrid SO2 chemical absorption process that has been successfully investigated and tested on the line III of St. Demetrius SES on an industrial scale and the use of activated solid combustion by-products including fly ash and dry desulfurization sorbent material that has not acted.
